Robert is a tax lawyer who has gained wide experience with leading London firms with established tax reputations. Immediately before establishing his own practice Robert was a corporate tax partner for over 15 years with the London based international law firm, Simmons & Simmons. His practice was distinctive in that it embraced both corporate and high net worth individual clients - both UK and non-UK domiciled.
Robert graduated from Southampton University. He has a Masters in US tax law from Boston University. He qualified as a solicitor in 1980 after training with Nabarro Nathanson and joined KPMG's tax practice in 1981. In 1984 he joined Simmons & Simmons and was made a partner in 1988.
Robert is a specialist in helping US clients establish themselves in the UK. He has performed the UK legal function for numerous US companies and is expert in the operating issues they face when doing business here. He has assisted US clients in acquisitions of both private and quoted companies, in setting up independently and as part of a joint venture. For over 15 years a major client has been Limited Brands Inc, a New York Stock Exchange quoted retail group.
Robert advised on the tax aspects of the privatisation of the UK rail industry and the flotation of Railtrack.
He has considerable experience advising the asset management industry, including hedge funds and proprietary traders.
He established Robert Schon Solicitors in 2005 to provide expert but practical UK corporate tax planning advice to UK and international corporations.
